Fatshion, Food & Frivolities – Life in Las Vegas & Singapore

Thank you for restoring my faith in life, 2013

As I bid goodbye to 2013, my family (Mum and 2 sisters), T and I are heading to Arizona to celebrate the New Year with T’s Dad and Stepmom.

It seems like the last few months have been nothing but a string of celebrations for T and I. I am usually afraid to rub my happiness in people’s faces because I am also one of those who gets annoyed by seemingly successful counterparts who hit life milestones one after another – graduation, marriage, promotion, babies… Happy happy joy joy… But please let me revel in what I have at the moment. I feel like I am allowed to shout out loud how grateful I am for the year that is ending.

20131230-082040.jpgSo many wonderful things happened this year even if I seem to only be talking about T and I recently. Getting engaged in Batam (Indonesia), getting married by Darth Vader and now trying to permanently settle in Vegas are all very exciting. Thank you to my good friend Luanne who made a wish (on one of those white beach ball wishing spheres floating at the Marina Bay) for me last December. She drew me with a house, a tree and a random stick man – then wished that all for me. Tah dah! It worked!!!

But as with previous years I am also grateful for the year at work – my colleagues and friends whom have been nothing but supportive, making the work environment so much more inviting (Go team, Programming! Go Baybeats!) My very enlightened and understanding bosses – especially when I pulled the “I’m sorry I’m quitting cos I’m getting married in Vegas” stunt on them. Also, getting the opportunity to book My Brightest Diamond and Mutemath (thanks Sara and Clarence). My lunch buddies – the Corp Comms gang. I also miss being just a few aisles away from my awesome pal Ryddy who’s always been there – work and play, protecting (and bullying me *koffkoff*).

OMG I miss everyone at work. I wish I was traipsing through the entire building right now saying hi to everyone and sneaking up to their desks for gossip. I can’t believe I left my dream job.

On the 35 by 35 challenge side, I participated in the Green Corridor Run and the Safari Zoo Run (yes I trudged slowly but I completed the entire 12km that day and I definitely wasn’t the last!).

Other than going places on foot, 2013 saw me traveling a fair bit – Beijing (thanks for planning the trip Joe), Hong Kong (thanks for hosting me Cousin Dawn), Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia (okay lah only Batam), Seattle, Los Angeles, New York (twice to visit T’s family) and Arizona. And now I’m in Las Vegas.

My other “achievement” includes becoming a Silver Medallion member on Delta after flying back and forth so many times to see T and meet his family. Hahahahaa…

Looking back upon this time last year, T was calling me at the stroke of midnight when I was counting down to 2013. My inner circle friends and I were lighting sparklers at Candice and Jamie’s condo when we almost set off the sprinklers because it became so smokey in the flat it stung our eyes! I was laughing and hugging my pals, T timed it so that he could say Happy New Year even though it wasn’t quite time yet in North America and I told him, maybe next year we could be physically together doing this. Who’d have thunked that we’d be married and saying goodbye to 2013 together with our families?

2013 has been nothing but awesome! I think I deserve everything that I received and I’m not even the slightest apologetic about it.

Big shoes you gotta fill yo, 2014!

I left Singapore for the US of A in 2013 and I now live in Las Vegas with my indie game dev husband T (and Max the Maximum Dog). I am also probably much older than you think I am.

  1. I hope I’m not one of those that rub “Happiness” in others’ faces, because I dislike that myself.
There are going to be a lot more things coming for you in these following years to come — I know it in my bones.

  2. So pleased for you! That’s an awesome year! I’m glad you’re ringing it in with people you love and love you!

  3. You deserve all the happiness!!

    • I think so too! I waited patiently for everything to fall in place. Afterall, I worked hard for more than 10 years and I had to wait till I was 35 for this fairy tale romance to take shape! :P
