My Stuff: Gym Essentials

Here’s a what’s in my bag post. I’ve been meaning to do one for a while now. Mostly, I’ve just been blogging about my make-up pouch but how about a peek into the gym bag which I tote around at least twice a week?

Bag: Grey single pocket nylon tote from MARC BY MARC JACOBS

Toiletries pouch: Red polka dotted oval-shaped pouch from CATH KIDSTON

Toiletries: ORIGINS No Offense alcohol-free deodorant; Natural wood wide-tooth comb from THE BODY SHOP; KAO Essential Damage Care Nuance Airy Shampoo & Conditioner; DERMALOGICA Special Cleansing Gel; ORIGINAL SOURCE mango & macadamia shower smoothie

Shoes: Light Pink NIKE shoe bag; Dark Pink NIKE FREE HYPER TR sneakers

Bottle: 16oz NALGENE water bottle (I literally guzzle water everyday and I’ve started carrying this in my handbag too)

I didn’t buy most of my toiletries. I’ve had a good steady supply of travel-sized ones since I started subscribing to BellaBox and Glamabox. Most of the stuff they put together are actually very reputable brands and I never had to worry.

So what are your gym essentials? What do you normally bring to the gym or your workouts?

My Stuff: Maroon Mini

I’ve had this ruffly floral top from the H&M Garden Collection for more than half a year and I’ve only worn it twice. The last time I photographed myself wearing it was on 24 November 2011 (see this post)

So anyway for the longest time, I haven’t had much inspiration and couldn’t figure out how to wear it without looking frumpy. I haven’t had the heart to give it away or throw it out and was hoping for a miracle.

I found this cut-tag maroon miniskirt for a real steal at S$12 when browsing through a small neighbourhood shop today. What do you think? It works right? What should I pair it with? (Duh! What a dumb question… what else but my everyday staple, the black ballet flats?)

Because I had no one around, these blurry pictures were taken with PhotoBooth on my MacBook.

My Stuff: Make-up Pouch May 2012

It’s been a while since I did one of these “What’s in my Bag” type posts. My current make-up pouch which I carry everyday is compact and handy. This is the minimum I’ll need to look presentable.

1. Vinyl-coated pouch with coloured skulls & cross bones from PAPERCHASE

2. MAYBELLINE Instant Age Rewind under eye concealer in Medium

3. MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder in NC25

4. BIOTHERM Play On velvet eye shadow in 105

5. BENEFIT Dandelion brightening face powder

6. SILKY GIRL natural brow pencil in 02 Dark Brown

7. MAYBELLINE Hypersharp Liner

What do you carry or use on a daily basis?

Fat-shionista: My Style

I think fashion and me, we’re a joke. I don’t follow fashion, I don’t get it and fashionable things never fit me. Can’t really say I’m stylish either but I suppose I have my own.

If I had to describe it, I’d have to say eclectic, quirky and maybe bordering on costumey.

I love mass market brands as much as I love handmade, as much as I love vintage. I’m not a snob that way and neither am I worried about being labelled or pigeon-holed. Feel free to call me a hipster/clown/bag lady/disaster, I don’t care.

I like leggings more than I like jeans or trousers. I know I can definitely do bright colours. I love accessories. I am round and lumpy but I refuse to use painful control underwear to enhance my silhouette. I am more often than not, a bargain hunter. I am also mindful not to wear anything in season because I am afraid someone else might wear it better than I do (and they also do anyway). Hence… the madness that is below:

My Stuff: Beauty Subscription Service

I’ve been subscribing to Bellabox and Glamabox for a few months now. It’s like a beauty product of the month kind of service. Both are under S$20 and have at least 5 sample-sized (sometimes full sized) products. I haven’t been overwhelmed by the stuff they sent but I still get excited every month to see what’s inside the pretty packages.

So far I’ve had stuff from Crabtree & Evelyn, Lierac, Phyto, Dermalogica, Clinique, Aveda amongst others. Some are actually not bad and I diligently use everything that’s suitable for my skin-type. I like that many of these things are sample-sized and I pop them into my purse or gym bag regularly. I would say that it evens out and some months are really good, some are quite disappointing. Also, both boxes came late this month. I didn’t get them till this week. I think I prefer products rather than the coupons or gift certificates that they throw in the box because the gift certificates require you to spend more money. Also,  Glamabox threw in some trinkets (i.e. giftbox shaped charms) and claims they’re worth $30 – I don’t really want these things in my beauty subscription service.

I’m sure there are other beauty subscription services around but these 2 are ok for now. I might not renew after the year is up though. Well, I’m not sure. Maybe things will get better in the next few months. It’s been an exciting few months and I love getting the parcels in the mail.

Here are some pictures of my boxes from previous months (with the remnants) as well as the unboxing of April’s Bellabox and Glamabox…

My Stuff: Products I Love Now (April 2012)

20120407-091805.jpg

These are some products I’ve been using for a while now and I really like them:

FANCL White Body Milk – I often work in the sun and my skin type is not exactly sun-friendly. I get freckles all over my face, arms and chest so I was searching online for something that would lighten my freckles when I read a thread on a beauty forum mentioning the product. It does not whiten or bleach your skin, I think it makes my freckles less obvious though. It’s light, fragrance-free (almost) and so easily absorbed. It’s my nightly body lotion routine now.

CLARINS Toning Lotion (Alcohol-Free With Iris) – this was an unplanned purchase. I bought a coupon for a facial at Eden Spa (Purvis Street) where they only use CLARINS products and it was such a good facial that I started wandering around looking at all the products they had on display. They carry a really good range and I casually enquired about the prices. Turned out that they had a special on the toner & make-up remover as a set. Full-sized products but virtually half the price so as all bargain hunters do, I was suckered it. I’m using the make-up remover but am not too crazy about it. The toner however, I really like! I’m not sure if I’ll continue buying it after I’m done with this bottle because of the price.

TK Trichokare Black Shine – another couponing adventure that ended up with me suckered into buying something. I do however use the product and love it. It’s been awhile now that I’ve gone “dark”. No more coloured hair and no more lightening. I’m back to my dark brown/black Asian hair because I’m turning 40 in a couple of years and I thought I’d better enjoy my natural hair colour before I started turning white. This product is used after wash and dry to provide a nice sheen/gloss without adding too much grease. I have extremely oily scalp and I have to wash my hair twice a day. I must say I almost never use product in my hair for that reason but I love this Black Shine enough to use it on my hair ends almost every day!

SE Donkey Milk Essence Foam Wash – yes Donkey Milk, not kidding! I was so amused that I bought a bottle out of curiosity. Turned out smelling like regular foam wash for showering but a lot more expensive. (SGD 49) I’ve used it about 4x and it’s part of my bi-weekly exfoliating regime. I don’t have to moisturize after this because it doubles up as a moisturiser and does leave the skin nice and soft. I use bath gloves with the product and rinse off after, just like that.

Plus Sized Ladies Shapewear

Other than owning too many clothes, I am guilty of owning waaaaay too much underwear. I can go for almost a month without doing laundry (eeeks!) and still have enough underwear for a fresh change at least twice a day. Ok, I actually do my laundry at least 2x a month, so… that’s still kinda decent right?

I’m sure I’m not alone – I somehow missed the memo for Plus-sized girls about getting a nice pair of tatas and a full booty with my excess weight. I want to hold bits in, and pad other bits out. Heh! Luckily for me, I live in the first world and I’ve been faking it with really good underwear. I also like them matchy-matchy, do you?

So anyway, I was directed to the SimplyYours website and I think I stuck gold!! 60% off, end of season sale! w00t! If you’re a little skint like me (Chinese New Year’s approaching and I’ve got to stretch it a little to give out those red packets), you might want to do as I do – “Sort by Price lowest to highest” first.

Here are my picks!

Gok Wan Underwired Lace Body £17.50

Gok Wan Underwired Bra £14.00 (comes with matching undies too!)

Gok Wan Briefs £6.00

Eve Light Control Bodyshaper £12.00

My Stuff: Dragon Brooch

I wanted to share an adorable new brooch I picked up for $27 today at a quaint bookshop called WOODS IN THE BOOKS.

This is one in a series inspired by old public playgrounds in Singapore (way before the safe rubber mats and plastic slides; when we had sand and tiles and wood and cast iron to play amongst).

I’d like to collect them all but, it’d be too excessive, no? Maybe I’ll go back and buy more as gifts for friends who’d appreciate nostalgia and quirky accessories as much as I do.

Here are some links to said playgrounds:

My Stuff: New Shoes – pink/leopard print creepers

I ordered these jazzy leopard print shoes off eBay (seller: FromTheHeel) on a whim. I’m quite particular about how shoes fit and I wasn’t sure if I could walk in them. I love how they look and they are so my style! Pity they pinch and my heels hurt. But then again they are new shoes right? Hopefully I’ll break them in and they won’t be relegated to just being shoes for taking pictures in hahahahha!

If you like them check out other offerings from the same seller. I think they ship worldwide and for this price, I think it’s not bad at all! Cute right?
